After a successful pilot (2021-2024), we are now seeking funding to continue our invaluable work on the Marine Kaitiaki Course.
What is the Marine Kaitiaki Course
An employment focused program where you will gain a wide range of hands-on marine conservation experience. Working with Māori kaitiaki leaders, marine researchers, and conservation specialists, you will learn valuable skills and knowledge about New Zealand’s marine environment. Participants will complete distinguished certifications, engage in interactive coursework and collaborative projects throughout the program.

Course Details:
6 months, full-time – 22nd January to 24th July 2024
The course is offered at no cost for the students
Class size: 8 students
Main topics:
- Marine biology – focus on New Zealand ecosystems and taxons
- Vessel handling
- Matauranga Maori
- Marine research techniques
Interact with fisheries, aquaculture, ecotourism, and environmental governance professionals!
